Today, brought the class a little closer together...Class clowns started speaking up *ahem*, more jokes were made, and people began to feel more comfortable with one another. When you only have six weeks to get to know each other and support one another, things start to move quite quickly!
Each day we start off with a brain teaser, something to wake up the hamster at the wheel. I've never been good at these. I'm creative, but I cannot think outside the box when it comes to creative puzzles. Why? No clue....All I know is they get me thinkin' but I'm never first to answer.
The individuals in my class are quite nice. Five women, and eight men, comprised mostly of businesses focused on trades; the group seems like it's going to be headed towards success. The ideas are good, and the brains in order. I have good, positive vibes for the success of Group 49.
Today, we touched on financials; something most of us fear in the group. As we all know, most businesses fail within the first year, and even with our government training wheels, and our initial investment, losing our shirts is still quite high on our list of things we fear; especially - if money, and the comprehension of it, eludes you.
I've never been good at math, and that statement stands strong today. I could feel my little hamster take a break at the wheel and stare outside during this time. Having to keep myself focused on the topic at hand will be tough, but golly jeez will it ever be crucial. That dear reader will be my toughest focus. Watch this space for more info on that topic!
The most interesting part of the day, was getting to know some of our classmates business names, and offering feedback. Since I had picked my name from the very beginning, and had already registered, I prayed the group would be easy on their dissection and thoughts of it, and as my Irish luck would have it-they were.
Everyone knows the importance of a name. It can shape you, and in the same second, become your demise. Unlike Madonna, Alice Cooper, and Elvis Costello - it's not that easy to change your business name once it's (the business itself) been given life. Unless you are a hustler looking for a quick buck (and potential jail time), changing your name often is never wise, and tests the legitimacy of your service to the consumer.
That being said - we played with the working titles of some of the groups businesses, and really got a feel for each other, the limits we could take without being insensitive and maybe sparked a few new ideas within the group!
More tomorrow!
